About the Site
Historian Steve Burg visits class. 10/2012
This site is the work of 16 students enrolled in Introduction to Public History (Fall 2012) at Skidmore College. The project was commissioned by the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation.
The class used resources in the Saratoga Springs Public Library Saratoga Room, the City Historian's Office, the Saratoga Springs History Museum, and online archives, such as archive.org. They also drew on resources from and interviews with members of the congregations and people involved in the preservation and dissemination of Saratoga history. We are grateful to many Saratogians for sharing their stories and contributing to this project, including Sara Boivin of the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation, librarian Teri Blasko, historian Field Horne, Saratoga Springs Visitor Center staffer Johnnie Roberts, and city historian Mary-Ann Fitzgerald, as well as Skidmore faculty and alumni whose connections to these sacred spaces helped fill in some gaps in the written record.
The work on Saint Peter's Catholic Church was added in 2014, the result of an independent research project supervised by Prof. Tillman Nechtman.
